Who We Are

The Office of Technology Transfer (OTT) at UCF, established in 1989, protects and commercializes innovations developed by UCF researchers. Our team combines expertise in science, business, and law to manage intellectual property assets, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and related licenses.

Each submitted invention is thoroughly evaluated, and for selected technologies, a tailored intellectual property protection plan and commercialization strategy are developed. OTT licensing professionals manage hundreds of promising technologies and actively pursue industry partners to bring these innovations to market.

What We Do

OTT manages UCF’s intellectual property assets developed by faculty, researchers, students, and staff. OTT professionals work closely with inventors to protect and promote promising new discoveries. Invention disclosures may be submitted via email using the UCF disclosure form.

OTT collaborates with inventors to review each discovery, explore potential applications, and assess feasibility, novelty, and market potential. The office also helps identify industry partners and facilitates licensing to bring technologies to market. Once a technology is licensed, the OTT team continues to monitor commercialization progress and manages revenue distribution, including royalties allocated to inventors, colleges, and departments to support further research.

Why We Do It

Technology Transfer brings industry partners, entrepreneurs, and investors to UCF and creates a powerful economic engine for the local community, the state, and the nation. These collaborations lead to the formation of new companies and the commercialization of innovative technologies, which in turn generate high-skill jobs and strengthen the talent pipeline. They bring significant capital investment into the region and diversify the economy by growing technology sectors such as biotechnology, optical communication, advanced materials, space exploration, clean energy, and many more. Technology Transfer not only generates revenue and fosters economic resilience but also enhances UCF’s reputation as a hub for research-driven growth and global competitiveness.
