Associate Director of Licensing and Operations
Mark is the Associate Director of Licensing and Operations in the Office of Technology Transfer. He is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day management of technology commercialization operations and programs. Additionally, he assists the director with setting the goals, direction, and expectations for the office, as well as identifying and meeting stakeholder expectations.
Mark has over 25 years of industry experience in the areas of wireless telecommunications and aerospace.
Mark started out his career in telecommunications as an engineer and engineering manager. He transitioned into competitive intelligence reverse engineering products and performing opportunity and threat analysis for C-suite executives. He progressed into intellectual property management and obtained another master’s degree to license, protect, and strategize IP for aerospace companies. He developed $400M dollar licensing revenue pipelines and IP plans that protected over $2B in technologies ranging from unmanned underwater submarines, cybersecurity and space planes. Mark transitioned from aerospace to academia and served as Senior Technology Manager for the College of Engineering at the University of Illinois Chicago, where he expanded strategic partnerships and negotiated licensing agreements that commercialized over $2.5M in university owned intellectual property. During the supply chain shortage, Mark served as Director of Global Semiconductor Procurement at a major telecommunications company, securing critical supply to support $8.2B in revenue while implementing sourcing strategies that reduced costs and mitigated supply chain risk.
Mark’s education includes a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Southern Illinois University, a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology, a master’s degree in Intellectual Property Management from Chicago Kent College of Law and executive training from the Wharton School of Business.
