Subject: Economic Stimulus Funding Opportunities
The economic challenges facing our country may offer unique opportunities for UCF faculty to contribute to solutions and obtain significant funding. As Congress considers the American Recovery and Reinvestment Bill of 2009 in the next two weeks, up to $550 billion dollars could be invested into targeted efforts including:
Clean, Efficient, American Energy
Transforming our Economy with Science and Technology
Modernizing Roads, Bridges, Transit and Waterways
Education for the 21st Century
Tax Cuts to Make Work Pay and Create Jobs
Lowering Healthcare Costs
Helping Workers Hurt by the Economy
Saving Public Sector Jobs and Protect Vital Services
The House Appropriations Committee just released plans to include an
additional $3 billion for the National Science Foundation, with $100 million specifically designated for STEM programs. Decisions on this funding are expected to occur rapidly so I would encourage each of you to read the summary package at http://appropriations.house.gov/pdf/PressSummary01-15-09.pdf,
identify target areas that you could contribute to and start plans to submit by preparing 3-page white papers. We want to be prepared to respond on short notice.
