NSF Presents Workshop at UCF

January 12, 2012

Representatives of the National Science Foundation were welcomed to UCF on Thursday as they led a workshop for more than 300 researchers from throughout Florida.

UCF President John C. Hitt welcomed the agency officials to the campus and credited NSF with serving as a catalyst for the growth of UCF programs in optics, lasers, computer simulation and other engineering and science disciplines.

Frank Brogan, Chancellor of the State University System of Florida which sponsored the event along with the NSF, spoke of the importance of strengthening science and research in the state as Florida transitions to a knowledge-based economy.

The program focused on introducing researchers to NSF and its processes in funding research.  Each year  the independent agency, with an annual budget of about $7 billion,  supports an average of about 200,000 scientists, engineers, educators and students across the U.S. and around the world.
